Austropa Interconvention puts itself into service of a good cause and supports the non-profit association WineAid.

Following the motto “Every mouthful helps!” selected Austrian children’s charities of the Austrian Children’s Cancer Charity as well as the Austrian Association for Children’s Villages are supported through the purchase of specially produced, Austrian wines from the WineAid series. The net profit of this campaign benefits disadvantaged children and teenagers in the community.

Congress of the European Respiratory Society

Austropa Interconvention was after 2009 again chosen as the local partner of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and official housing agency during this year’s annual meeting, taking place from September 1 – 5, 2012 once again in Vienna with around 18.000 participants. Furthermore, the organizer was assisted with all congress travel agency activities and the organization of the social program.

The Austrian Convention Bureau (ACB), the umbrella organization of the Austrian congress industry, welcomes the new Board of Directors, elected during the General Assembly on June 26, 2012.

This board is made up of various representatives of the Austrian meetings industry – the spectrum reaches from PCOs to convention centers, convention bureaus and hotels. This diversity ensures high quality cooperation and promotes the development of the whole meeting industry.

We are pleased to welcome Maria Danklmaier, Head of Austropa Interconvention, once again on the board as PCO representative.

Austropa Interconvention was awarded as one of the first Austrian Congress Organizers by the city of Vienna as an EcoBusinessPlan company. The subsidiary of the Verkehrsbüro Group is therefore honored for its leadership position in Green Meetings. “We are very pleased to receive this award as EcoBusinessPlan company. With green conferences and events, we prove that environmental protection and successful business do not exclude each other”, said Maria Danklmaier, Head of Austropa Interconvention. The licensed provider of sustainable and environmentally responsible congresses meets the strict requirements of the Austrian ecolabel. Expensive raw materials and valuable energy are saved, waste or emissions are avoided, and therefore cost savings for customers are reached.

On 19 May 2011, Austropa Interconvention became the first Austrian congress organizer to receive the new “Green Meetings” environmental award from envi-ronment minister Niki Berlakovich. The Verkehrsbüro Group subsidiary has therefore assumed a pioneering role in environmental protection and sustainability in the congress and events industry. “As Austria’s first licensed congress organizer, we intend to establish a strong position on the promising green meetings market. We have already organized ‘World’s Large Rivers’, the first international green conference in Vienna. Our customers’ interest in sustainable and ecologically responsible congresses is growing,” explains Maria Danklmaier, director of Austropa Interconvention. Each congress delegate consumes 151 litres of water a day and produces nine kilograms of rubbish. The new environmental award is a clear declaration in favour of environmental protection.
